New York I Love You….

I thought I’d just put a wee blog in about my New York trip. I had a great time back in NY staying with my old pal Sarah Schor – she done me proud, so cheers mate. I checked out the new studio she now works at Kings Avenue Tattoo Bowery and Spring, which is a lovely big open plan studio. I was lucky enough to be present at the opening party for this new studio and it was a fun night as well as a regular “who’s who” of tattoo and art in the US and beyond.

Also while in NY I  had a few more sessions of tattoo done myself by Thomas Hooper at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn. I think we managed to get in eight hours of work over three sessions – mainly on my ribs and chest. I hate getting my ribs done but we’re almost there now. Many thanks to Thomas for this and his great company as usual and also to all the other folks at Saved for their warm welcome.

I caught up with some friends old and new including my good friend Jason June which was great as always – I do have one complaint though which is I didn’t get to catch up with his lovely lady Adi this time which was a shame. Next time eh?

All in all it was a busy little trip and I had a blast – thanks New York you dirty, dirty wonder you……

Cliche

Stu had more of his chest done and a cliche finger tattoo at the same time.

East Bay Rays

So for once in my life I’m actually having a holiday. I’m over visiting some good friends of mine in Oakland, California and my goodness they have been treating me well! I had my birthday over here, they took me to a very cool bar called “Beer Revolution” then off down to an area called “Jack London” (he was a very famous author, journalist and activist – probably most famous for White Fang) where we had a few drinks in the sunshine at Heinolds  First and Last Chance Bar which was a very interesting old building with it’s uneven floors and walls. We then went to eat at a vegetarian chinese restaurant called The Golden Lotus where the vegan food was a delight. To follow this we went to see Explosions in the Sky at the Fox Theatre. If you are ever in Oakland I strongly recommend a visit to this lovely, ornate venue. We finished with nightcaps in the backyard looking at the stars. Thanks so much Chad and Erin – you guys rule!

I  leave for New York soon and get some more of my tattoo from Thomas (Hammer of the Gods) Hooper which’ll be a blast. I’ll also get to catch up with Sarah Schor and insult her face to face for change which I miss since she left us for the Big Snapple last year. Hopefully I’ll get to hook up with other pals like Jason June and Geoff Horne for at least a meal or a drink. Good times.
