Happy New Year – Welcome Insider

Hello and Happy New Year!

Print

I know that is a bit past the sell by date but then I’ve been pretty terrible at this blog yet again but I feel, in some way, that I have some sort of excuse. I’ve been very busy for the last few months setting up my own new private tattoo studio in Leith, Edinburgh which has taken all of my attention and energy but has been totally worth it.

The studio is called and is located at:

Insider Studio,

89 Henderson Street, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 6ED

The studio is a wonderful, bright, open space with fantastic views along the Shore, it is, as mentioned, a private appointment-only studio accessed through a residential stairway meaning that, although visitors are welcome it is best to contact us first before coming along.

Here are some photographs of the studio build from start to finish.

I would very much like to thank Splintr for the interior design concept, Bryden Firth Joinery, MS Flooring, Sorell Furniture, Sean Brown Plumbing and Heating , Ryan O’Malley Electrician and Keith Wood Painting and Decorating for all their hard work and fantastic service – these guys have been brilliant each and every one.

Healed/New

Here are some pieces some of which are healed, like the mandala on this first piece, with other new tattoos.

The endless knot here is new – the sanskrit was not done by me.

Tattoo-1150102.edit

I filled in the spaces between some work by my friend Alvaro Flores who works in Melbourne, Australia at Korpus Tattoo.

Maze, seed of life and constellation concept was brought in by the customer.

Interesting piece in as far as it covers a birthmark making use of it.

Classic lotus.

My old pal Jon was back when I was at Into You in London – he got several little tattoos done in the same session – P1150110

I managed to get a few shots of Asia’s healed tattoo from a short while back. I did a cover up on her lower back which you can just see in one of the photos but my other pictures of it were out of focus….. I’m a tattooist not a photographer it seems.

Waves Mandala Bands

I’ve had some very interesting projects finally completed in the last few weeks – I decided that it’s far more interesting to put up complete works rather than ‘in progress shots’ which will probably work better with my slack blog updating schedule.

First up is Ian who has been having this top of arm/chest geo piece done over the last few months and I’m quite happy with the results and I hope he is too.P1150046.10x8web

Mary has been very regular in her appointments meaning that we got this sleeve completed relatively quickly. I tried to keep this piece light and delicate to an extent to suit her light frame.P1150019.10x8web P1150010.10x8web

Apologies for the blood patch on this but we were pushed for time at the end of the session so the young lady could catch her bus back to Aberdeen.P1140873.10x8web

We finally finished Nicole’s backpiece with a simple dotwork motif – having been tanning herself and some of the tattoo is 9 months old makes the picture look a little unbalanced.

A fun bit of Sacred Geometry for Daniel – apparently it was from an old book cover.

P1150050.10x8web

Lastly this was a bit of a test – 5 freehand bands around the arm with a small Arabic pattern cartouche – although I was nervous about doing this I really enjoyed it in the end.P1150040.10x8web

Catching Up

So for once I’m keeping on top of this sort of……

I’ve had some fun in Edinburgh and also at my guest spot in Liverpool for which I want to thank Richie and Paul at Forever True Tattoo for being fantastic hosts and gentlemen. I always enjoy my stay at the studio and they make me feel completely welcome and like a part of the crew – cheers guys!

In Liverpool I did some fun work too and here are some of them.

Jack who I have been tattooing in Edinburgh came across to Liverpool too. To reiterate – I did not do the triangle/zelda, the strip pattern or the crow which Jack already had and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the tattooist for which I apologise.

Henna Pufferfish Nest Whale

So here is some more work from the last few weeks – I’m almost back up to date.

First up I added to Jane’s mandal/henna arm next to some great pieces by Stef fro Old Town Tattoo in Edinburgh. Then there are various other pieces – amongst them a puffer fish nest – look the video up on the internet as it’s pretty cool – a Native American textile pattern whale, a Ganesh and amongst it a piece of Japanese inspired colour work from a few years back that I added a chest panel onto.

London Tattoo Convention 2014

I was fortunate enough to work at the London Tattoo Convention this year for which I’d like to say thanks to Miki Vialetto and all of the crew. It was a last minute affair and consequently I didn’t have time to get a banner or much other stuff together to make my booth look nice but I rolled with it and knocked together a purposely näive banner and made the best of it. I haven’t done too many shows in the last few years but had  great time and was kept busy at this very well attended convention chatting to visitors to the booth and tattooing some great customers.  I  hardly had time to visit any other booths or the art exhibitions unfortunately which is a shame since there were so many friends and other sights to see that I missed out on – such is life.

My lovely wife was there assisting me  and taking photographs over the weekend as well as selling her own ‘Wee Dottle’ Hairflowers which were popular amongst the lady attendees. Here are a few photographs from over the weekend and some of the tattoos:

Edinburgh Marriage and Beyond

Well Edinburgh was fantastic. I had a great time guesting back at Red Hot and Blue Tattoo with all of the guys there which is always going to be a home for me after so much time spent there before. Catching up with old clients and also meeting new as well as getting to do some fun tattoos in the process. It was an extremely busy time for me as I had the spectacular luck to have been back home to get married to my wonderful, beautiful partner Kay. She made me the happiest that I can ever be and was the most stunning, perfect bride. As I say I am the happiest I could be – thank you Kay I love you. x

Also thanks to all our friends and family for coming along to celebrate with us – you guys made the party!

As I mentioned I did some tattooing too while organising the wedding so here is a small selection:
